A Story in a Single Image

The Day-4 exercise is A Story in a Single Image. I have to choose one of the four images and use it as a setting for a poem, write about how it makes me feel or describe a memory it conjures. I am chosing the below pic.

This picture reminded me of the recent vacation that we took. We had been to Maldives for 5 days and 4 nights. We stayed at the Paradise Island Resort & Spa and it was a fantastic place. The entire island with an area of about 1 km is the resort. The beautiful white beach and the shallow turquoise water with colourful fauna made this place look like a paradise indeed. The breakfast and the dinner were well arranged with lot of options. We even got South Indian cuisine which tasted so much authentic. We don’t get such food even here in Pune. The service was great.

There were a lot of options for activities in the resort. For people who like water, they had a bunch of water sports. For people who want to spend leisurely on the land, they had options like Tennis court, gym, basketball etc. For people who like exploring, they had excursion options like Island Hopping, Dolphin Cruises, Submarine cruise, Fishing cruises etc. We did the following activities:

  • Parasailing
  • Jet Skiing
  • Canoeing
  • Dolphin Sunset Cruise
  • Scuba Diving -> I wrote about my experience here.

Most of the time, we were just soaking in the water like buffaloes. The first day I got a good Maldivian Tan. And second day, I got sunburn. Inspite of using sunscreens. Probably lack of knowledge about how to use it could have been the issue. I had to apply a jar of aloe vera gel for a week after coming back. But hey, that’s the mark of a good vacation. Isn’t it?

So like any good vacation, five days passed by in a wink. But the memories will last for a long time.

Cheers!

  1. Great post! I often find myself remembering vacations with family when I see pictures of various places/things. Also, I love that quote at the end.
