Happy New year!

2019 is over quickly before you could blink and 2020 is already here. 2019, like any year in the past or like any year will be in the future, had its ups and downs. There are many great people, things, and experiences that I came across this year that I am truly grateful for.

When I was retrospecting various aspects of 2019, one recurring theme that I came across was having a lot of ideas but not taking enough action to convert those ideas into something workable. I am sure we all go through this. We all have that sudden spark of an idea when we brush, shower or when we are simply gazing through the glass door in a boring meeting. The ideas could be anything around saving more money or stopping the neighbour’s dog from disturbing your sleep. Then the self-doubt clouds our mind – “This idea is not good”, “idea is funny”, “too much effort, I do not have time”, “will this even work”, “I am not good at this”, “What will my friends & family say”. We ziplock the idea and launch it to the deepest, darkest corner of the space. We give up before even we take a single action.

In 2020, let us focus on taking action. As Grant Cardone said,

”Knowledge speaks. Wisdom listens. Action wins.”

Take some action towards an idea that is dear to you. My themes for 2020 are

  • Talk Less, Do More
  • Consume less, Create More
  • Make more moves, fewer announcements

I know! It’s an irony that I announced this here publicly. But, it will still be 2019 (at least in most part of the world) when this post will be published 🙂 Before I wrap up this post and while I am still in a preachy mode, I want to highlight a Tamil couplet from Thirukkural which is believed to have been written over 2000 years ago.

தெய்வத்தான் ஆகா தெனினும் முயற்சிதன்

மெய்வருத்தக் கூலி தரும்.

“Even though the fate or circumstances do not give the desired result of your undertaking, the labour that you put in trying to do that will yield appropriate results as per your efforts.”

So make that first move.

I wish you all a very happy, prosperous and an action-filled New Year 2020!

Cheers.
