Sun, earth, US, India, day and night

My daughter, Malu, is asking lot of questions these days. Today she asked us why is it day in India when it’s night in US and vice versa. I didn’t want to say some story and thought I will explain it to her through a demo.

I installed a torch light app in android phone. Then, I took a ball and explained her that it is earth. Then i wrote A on one side and said this is US. Then I wrote I on the other side and said this is India.

We needed a Sun. So we switched on the torch app and I explained to her that earth keeps on rotating like this. So when the light falls on A it’s day in US and no light on India. So night there. When earth rotates and light falls on I it’s day in India and night in US.

She looked all fascinated. I wanted to check how she understood. And asked her the same question. She replied enthusiastically – if it’s light in A no light in I. If light in I no light in A.😃
